The population of PDA area as per 2001 Census is 2,02,881, of which the urban segment figures 73,625 (36.29% of total population) and the rural segment a population of 1,29,256 (63.71% of the total population). The PDA area had a growth rate of 27.63% during the period 1991-2001. In the urban segment, this rate was 44.15%, which was higher than that of the State (urban), which stood at 30.28% for the period 1991-2001. The growth rate in the rural segment during the same period was 19.81%, again more than that of the State (rural), which stood at 14.08% during the same period

The Population Density of the PDA area works out to be 866 persons per km2. While, the density of urban segment accounts for 1570 persons per km2, the rural stands at 690 persons per km2. The sex ratio of the Master Plan area is 857 females per 1000 males.
