Consequent upon the opening up of the Port in 1965, port supportive industries started pouring into the area. Major industries like Paradip Phosphate Ltd (PPL), Indian Farmers Fertilisers Co Ltd (IFFCO), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Essar Steels Ltd, Cargill Foods Pvt Ltd, Goa Carbon, SKOL Breweries etc. along with many small industries have grown up in the area. The industries have accelerated the rise in the economy base of the area.
